Hello, I am going to buy my daughter a new mobile for her birthday this week, she has a giffgaff sim. Can this be put straight into an o2 handset? If so great, but if it needs unlocking I don't want to bother buying it. Any advice appreciated thanks

Giffgaff is owned by O2 and, according to the people posting on this thread, you can use Giffgaff sims in phones locked to the O2 network:

Thanks, I was going to ask in the shop but thought I would check first before I go to be on the safe side
I cannot understand how these companies are allowed to lock your phone (not their phone) once you have fulfilled your contract with them. What a ....ing liberty.

its a pay as you go im getting her, but I know exactly what you mean, once your contract is fulfilled your phone is paid for and should be free for any network as it is basically paid for umpteen times over
O2 will unlock your phone for you if you ask them
