I was brought up that lunch was 'dinner' and tea was what we had after school early evening and supper was what we had before bed time. I have stuck with tea and supper as I was brought up, but I say lunch now at lunch time !

It came in a small bottle like babycham but tasted of sherry or fortified wine, and was a relatively cheap way to 'take the edge off' but still appear somewhat sophisticated, as was ones want :o)
