Car Stops when accelerating

hi there I have a ford fiesta 1.1


The car starts but as soon as you hit the accelerator the engine stops. can you help?

If it happens when you pull away then possible clutch/gearbox trouble?
I'd say your gearbox has possibly siezed, you can get a replacement at a scrapyard quite cheap.

TIP. You can haggle at most scrapyards!!!

Don't hit the accelerator press it gently with your foot!


Does your engine stop as you "hit" the accelerator before you even put it in gear? if so you can dismiss the answers above.


What year is your car? it is hard to answer your question without more details.

Sorry I forgot to say could be your idle control valve needs cleaning.

my friend the car is ford fiesta 1.1i, k reg, 1993,
if i am not mistaken just try to get your exhast looked at cause have also had the problem .i think one of the boxes need to be changed
poss idle speed sensor or throttle position sensor

where can i find this idle speed sensor?

at the side of the throttle pot u may need to take off the air filter housing to get access think its on the right hand side of it
