I want to run the IBM Product Recovery CD on my PC, but I'm worried it could delete the important safety installations such as ad-aware and AVG. Does anyone know how I can run this disk to refresh my computer without deleting certain files or installations I don't want to be deleted?

Thanks

the recovery cd will wipe your system and restore it to how it was when you first had it. you can over-install windows if you have the appropriate cd (not the restore cd). i would back everything up then use the restore cd to start again.

Remember as well that your restore CD will only restore Windows to the level it was when the PC was shipped.

Depending how old it was you may need to download and install the latest Windows fixes and code such as Service Pack 2, Windows Media Player 10 and so on.

The good news is that it will include all the drivers and applications that shipped with the original PC.

But just to confirm what j2buttonsw says, you will LOSE EVERYTHING you have installed since you got the PC such as adaware and AVG plus any other applications.

You will also lose any "user" files such as documents you may have wriiten, mp3s you have downloaded etc.

Make sure you back them up to CD or DVD (you should be doing this regularly anyway).
