I've never been 'quad biking' as such, so cant really offer any advice as to have difficult or strenuous it is. I have however driven one from quite a young age for practical reasons and never had any problems re lack of strength with steering etc. I would have thought the more difficult courses would only be available for people with more experience anyway as it's v easy to have an accident on one of these things (ask Ozzy and Rik!) I'd say take your time and enjoy yourself and you should be OK (other idiots permitting-boys and their toys and everything!)

Thanks, I have a shoulder support aswell so think may wear this aswell, its a trek in Monaco across the Alps massif? not sure how this will be, i reall want to do it but dont want to injure myself anymore, how do they turn over, going to fast round bends??

They are 2 people per bike aswell, if that makes a difference

Hi Steve

I wouldn't worry too much about them turnong over-yes they do but your guides (and I assume there will be guides if you're on trek in mountains) will not be wanting any accidents like that. Yep they can be dangerous things, but I would have thought your primary concern would be 'pulling' your shoulder with the steering. I'd give it a go, and if you dont like steering swap with the other person on the bike. Give it a bash and have fun! I wonder if they'll privide you with goggles or anything tho-there will probably be lots of dust-might want to take a scarf and sun glasses incase!

Question Author

Thanks again, that is my biggest concern is my shoulder with the steering as I heard it was really difficult, yep there is guides with us seperated between the group, I am looking forward to it, trouble is the other one on my bike is my wife and she is tiny :) I probably be doing most of the work, hehe, but am quite worried but really want to enjoy myself, I have a shoulder support so not sure if to wear this and if it will help, does it really pull on the arms? my shoulder use to dislocate from serving in tennis? not sure if its ismilar impact, thanks again

steve

Put it this way Steve, my size 8 tiny sister has never had any probs steering or controlling bike! I guess you'll be following trails, not doing an assalut course, so I really wouldn't have thought it's going to be that taxing. Obviously though after all day and you are not used to it you might ache a bit, but that's cos you're using different muscles than you're used to-(I felt like she-ra after an afetrnoons canoeing!) If you've got a support I'd wear it. Its a different motion to serving in tennis I would have thought-not a rotating thing and the movements that you make are fairly gradual. I don't know if I'm being any help to you-it's a pity no-one else seems to have chucked their two penneth in!

Thank you again, you have been a great help, its much appreciated, my wife is size 10 and skinny so feel much better now, it is apparently a trail so gonner go along with it and wear the support, im sure i will be fine - its only 1/2 day aswell, not all day thankfully :) - now heaving heard what you have said and some of my work colleagues have said I will be fine aswell, think its just a worry even though it has been 3 years, it still plays on your mind :) I also found out today one activity is throwing stones in a competition, sounds like fun :) will have to use my left arm or my right one may go with the stone, hehe. my main concern about the biking was it pulling or yanking my shoulder, but doesnt seem like this happens? as that would causeme the problems

Thanks again for all your help, you have been great - hope you dont mind me keep coming back :)

Steve

I've been happy to help Stevepil-wasn't unreasonable to think there may be yanking involved (oo er), there might have been if you were doing something really really difficult, but not on a trail. Have a great time and do be careful throwing stones!!

Thank you, looking very forward to it now, :)

Question Author

Hi,

Sorry another question, was speaking to someone on another site regarding the biking and he was saying "Dont do it" awful terrains, mega vibration on the arms and shoulders, is this true? I have come to trust you now realise difficult to say cos different circumstances but im really worried now. I spoke to the person organising the trip re my concerns and he said you will be fine, but this makes me worry - its so blody painful when things go wrong.... I should be looking forward to this trip but all im doing is worrying about this at present :( and I really dont know what to do

Sorry to bug you again but wanted to know what you thought, wish I never asked anyone else now but I posted on 2 sites at same time and only just checked the other one.

Steve

Hi Steve

Well, I've only been able to tell you what I have experienced, but then I've never had a dislocated shoulder or an operation to fix it, so maybe what's easy for me an waif like sister would be difficult for you. We were riding these things from when we were kids, but on farm tracks and across fields-not in Monaco! There are quad trekking places in the UK, if you are still worried, why don't you give one locally a call, and ask if you could try for maybe an hr or so before you go, so you can get a better feel for it. It might put your mind at rest and give you the confidence to look forward to doing it for real. Let me know how you get on

Question Author

thanks again, you must think im mad :( my wife says she will ride it now - to stop me worrying about it, gonner wear the shoulder support etc so if feel upto it then I can give it a go, not sure if these supports are actually any good or if they cause more damage :( also going to Thorpe Park in June, hoping to go on some rollercoasters but again shoulder permitted, even though they are usually OK as you are strapped in, its the ones were you have to hold on and get thrown about were I have the problems, got some fun dates for my diary :) thanks for your help

Steve

lol OK, have a great time and don't forget what I said about dust as well! now roller coasters-you wont catch me on one of them things!
