Ben who is now nearly 14 has had trouble with his eyes. For a while now he has had an ulcer type lump on his eye lid and cataract in that eye. But now the other eye has started to sink back. The vet has given me two lots of drops to put in. But said this eye is going back into the area by the nose and is disappearing. That eye is only half open now and he said he will have tunnelled vision. My question is how do they cope like this as I wouldn't want him to be distressed. That isn't his only problem as he has arthritis in his back legs so he tends to fall down a lot. We are having to build an extra paving slab up on the conservatory door...in and out now as he cannot get his legs over the door frame. I really don't know what to do.? I don't want to lose him but nor do I want him to not be happy. Xx

OK, thanks for replying. Fingers crossed for him and let us know what the vet says please. X
If he enjoys his food and isn't in pain then why kill him. I'll try to manage a bit longer without a walking stick lest anyone gets ideas.
My criteria is if they can still get in and out to go to do a wee. Once they are unable to perform that simple function without help then while they may not be in pain, they have lost their dignity, and if they have been clean all their lives I don't feel it is fair to allow them to descend into a condition where there is no quality of life. Better a day too soon, than a moment too late.

lankeela. I really agree with you.. Ben is still getting in and out to go for a wee and eating well. the new slabs have helped and sometimes when he looks unable or nervous to go out I put his lead on and then he goes..it seems to give him more confidence I think.
Well he is able to do this I will give him all the love I can. Brenda x
