Hi - Is it me, or is there a mistake on this crossword - I'm talking about 10 down and 23 Across.

If 23 Across is Nutcracker, then 10 down has to be spelt incorrectly to fit in!

Good luck then.....if you need any help or need to discuss post in this thread.

Good luck to you too JimJools.

Shaneystar2,

Brassica napus - did you have colpa or colsa?

Hmmm.

Hi again ..I have Colza

Eurasian plant cultivated for its seed and as a forage crop [syn: rape, Brassica napus]..from Dictionary .com.
Question Author

Oh grrr. I found this amongst many (might ask father who is a botanist!)

Rape -- Brassica napus L.1

Rape, also called colpa, colsa, colerape, tori, and chou oleifere, is a cool-season annual plant similar to turnip and rutabaga. Rape originated in northern Europe and was cultivated in the Mediterranean area. It is seldom found in Florida gardens and presently is of no commercial importance in the state. When grown, it has been observed to produce satisfactorily.

They will probably accept both spellings Colza and Colsa
If you look at the answers for last months solutions they have accepted alternate spellings on 39 Across.
Chambers gives it as Colza. I usually go along with Chambers.
Question Author

Oh goodie.

We wouldn't want to open up the whole "bring the Z back into the English language" campaign would we?

Hi shaneystar could I have clues please for 1, 30 and 42 down. Not answers YET.
That should be 1, 30 and 42 across.
1a First name shortened version of a Kings name and second word ends in er and you bowl with these.
30A Sounds like a disease got from dirty water (first 5 letters) and the last 4 letters ,the french for you and an egyptian god.
40A One of a pair with her Majesty on the end.

Best I can do for clues I'm afraid !!

Thanks Shaneystar - I think. :-)

Thanks for all your help Shaneystar - I hadn't noticed this string sorry. I am stuck on a few other clues too.

3d, 4d, 8d, 11d & 24d

1ac, 13ac, 27ac & 44ac.

Is 15ac OSAKAFU? All references I could find to it were hyphenated so not too sure

For 15 a I have Okayama.
Go back to your other thread and I'll put some more help up for you as I don't want JimJools to see them as I think she wants to try and get as many as she can without help.

DON'T look at the other thread JimJools !!
