After my 13 year old son left his phone in the bathroom ( i suspect he wanted me to find it) i admit shamefacedly that i read his texts , there were 5 from a girl who he has met once at a local disco a couple of weeks ago and he has been texting her and calling her since. in the texts she crudely asks him if he has ever had sex before and if he wants to have sex with her this weekend.....my question is should i admit to having read the texts or just try and arrange something for the weekend so he has no opportunity to see her?

Hey kick3mOn, sorry you got mauled by whatever that's masquerading as. It's obviously got lots of repression issues so whether it's male or female best just to pity it and leave it to it's spiteful, ill informed ramblings. All those who have known you for any length of time on this site know what a thoroughly decent human being you are and it's just a shame that as usual there are people unwilling to respect other's opinions.

I'm glad that you presently have a good and respectful relationship with your daughters Joosey, and the manner in which you choose to parent is naturally up to you, however don't you think it might be a good thing to teach your daughters respect and good manners towards those with a differeing opinion to themselves, otherwise there is a very real danger that they will end up unlikeable bigots who don't know how to politely behave with only you for a friend and what a tragedy that would be for them.

Kick, I come on here for a laugh & a bit of banta. There are unfortunatley some peops on here who for whatever reason seem to have an arrogant streak and seek to put-down peops. Ive even noticed a couple in the Comedy Section (Sport !)

Hopefully, she will not return.

And to Andy Hughes, who i suggested on a now-pulled thread on Body & Sole section, was a tad pedantic at times, although very helpfull,... what I meant was sometimes you use big words that I dont understand. So if you are posting on threads that i am looking at, cud you please use smaller words that a simpleton like me cud understand!! examples include "verbatum" ...I had to look that one up !!

I think you were wrong to read the texts, but you now have legitimate concerns about your son's welfare and I would advise admitting to the intrusion into his privacy, apologise for your actions and raise your concerns about this girl. I don't know how old she is, but I doubt she is the monstrous creature referred to by a previous poster and is probably exhibiting a bravado that doesn't truly reflect her character. (I hope!)
Chatting with your children about your concerns is never a wasted moment in their lives, even if those moments are occasionally embarrassing for one, or both parties involved.

Just to try reclaim some of this thread back lol I spoke to my son and told him I had read the texts, and before I could say anymore he was laughing and telling me how her elder sister had got into a lot of bother for sending the texts in her name, so all worked out for the best anyway lol

Well I'm 16 and have to admit when I was 13 I wouldn't have been at all ready to have sex. Therefore I think it is important that you casually bring up sex in conversation. He needs to know the importance of being ready for sex and what it involves. Also, law states to have sex you must be 16 or older. I think it was out of order for you to read his texts because they're private. However I can see why you did it. Why don't you ask him to invite this girl to your house over the weekend and rent a film for them to watch together? Or something similar?
