look at programmes you have installed in add /remove programmes see what you need ,how you have used all that drive space in a short time seems odd unless you have thousands a of photos on it and hundreds of music files on it. if you dont know what the programmes are on your comp the google them, but down load first "cc cleaner" (free) and run a clean up of files see how much you get freed up on your hard drive
Have you got a lot of videos on it?

No videos on it. Maybe hundreds of photos. Will the system stop me deleting something thats needed ? Ran cccleaner & its now 6gb
Is it a laptop or a netbook? Only for it to be a mere 6 months old and have just a 50GB hard drive would be unusual for even low spec laptop. Most are more than 100GB in capacity. If it's a netbook, it's not designed for storing hundreds of photos. You might consider purchasing an external USB hard drive (500GB - 1TB for about £50-£80) to offload them onto that.
Many computers now come with their hard drive split into PARTITIONS.

You say you have a C drive, but you may also have a D drive on your hard disk as well. It may be sitting there empty.

Note you will also have a CD/DVD drive and that may be D (or E).

If you open "Computer" it should show you what drives and partitions you have.
