does anyone know the laws on blackmail? is it only illegal in certain cases? thanks

Like most laws, the original legislation has been refined over the years by decisions in the higher courts which have created precedents. The basis for determining whether an offence has been committed, however, remains with the wording contained within Section 21 of the Theft Act, 1968:
"It is an offence for a person, with a view to gain for himself or another, or with intent to cause loss to another, to make any unwarranted demand with menaces".
