My laptop runs on Windows XP. I want to upgrade but have to save things first. I have never saved programmes so am really a novice at this. I have a PC mover programme I bought and am wondering if it will save onto a big capacity usb stick. Presuming I can work through it! I haven't bought an upgrade programme yet, but am considering wiping the drive and installing Windows 7 from scratch. My laptop does not have a large capacity but have checked that it will take Windows 7. Have been watching the Upgrade progs on ebay but they run too expensive. Any advice would be gratefully received. Regards.

Do you mean saved programs or are you talking about documents pics etc.? You can buy a 64gb flash drive for less than £20 or a 500 Gb USB hard drive for sub £40 the latter will certainly be enough you can just drag and drop onto the new drive no speacial software is needed Just check any hardware you have like graphics cards sound cards etc which are installed...

Just check any hardware you have like graphics cards sound cards etc which are installed onboard your laptop -. have a Windows 7 driver (check manufacturers site) - a clean install is always preferable

Hi thanks for your response fiesta. I haven't done this before but was thinking I would have to save some programmes not just pictures. Possiblly now just scrap everying and start from scratch. But going to give it a go because it wasn't a cheap laptop and would be dodgy to use on XP. Thanks for replying.
