Musings ...

... Why do we all suspend critical judgment when stuff is free? Three examples :

1. Back in my NHS days a colleague was a real 'my body is my temple' foodie. Meat from the best butchers, veg from a poncy greengrocer, bread from an artisan bakery, everything else from Waitrose. Distinctly sniffy about lower forms of life who shopped elsewhere. Yet show him a free NHS buffet (dodgy grey sausage rolls, white pap bread and grated cheese sarnies, unidentifiable 'fried things onnastick') and he'd be in there troughing away like a good 'un.

2. The female who must have the exactly right 'products' for her hair - and will throw a serious wobbly if deprived ... but put her in a hotel & she'll pounce on the free stuff (which claims to contain sea kelp and mermaids tears, but is actually filled in the basement from a carboy of industrial cleanser) - and then use it all holiday - and moan if it isn't replenished daily.

3. Me - I take on holiday a pile of carefully selected books to entertain and educate me - then spend most of the time reading free magazines and random paperbacks that a previous occupant has left in the apartment - because they're free ...

Why, oh Why, oh Why do we do it

i always take more packets of condiments than i need.... just in case i'm somewhere and urgently need salt or pepper...as you do

hotel soaps - you are paying for though, they're not free
Not at my buffets, Dave!
Our Save the Children group is known for providing delicious refreshments at our fund raisers......So much so people began dashing to the tables and piling, really piling up food like they'd never eaten.....and people at the back twittering about there perhaps not being any left.
We got rid of the china plates and provided tiny, flimsy plates which were enough considering what we charge for an event....too little in my opinion.

At the last event....a smashing evening of entertainment for a fiver inc. refreshments.....Mrs Well Off Bigwig dashed to the table...piled her plate with cakes...lots of cakes...took them to her seat...wrapped them in tissue and put them in her handbag.....little did she know I saw her.....☻
When she went to fill up her plate to eat I tapped her shoulder and suggested she feed from her bag first...
She had the grace to blush.....it's greedy!
on similar lines. it really annoys me that if there's a free bar for a wedding, funeral etc, people who studiously avoid going to the bar as a rule, cant stop getting rounds in.
look around the tables at the end of the 'do' and they're groaning under untouched drinks.
