I would go for a suit. At the very least, trousers, top and a smart jacket/coat.
i recently bought a black wool tank top from asda for 5. i teamed this with a white 3/4 sleeve shirt (2.50 from Tesco) and some black trousers and wore it to an interview, that way you dont need to wear a suit jacket- i just put a 3/4 length overcoat on and took it off in the interview.

Thinking positively, wear something you'll be happy wearing to work after you get the job.

If you're female, a trouser suit is pretty safe; high street stores do good-quality, affordable ones.

smart trousers and shirt clean and ironed! clean shoes too!
A smart suit, with either skirt or trousers in a dark colour with a plain white shirt and clean shoes will always fit the bill.
