I am having a new cam belt fitted today. Is it possible that they could find something else wrong with the car whilst doing this? and charge me more money?

There is very little they can find a problem with whilst carrying out this job that you wouldn't have noticed whilst driving the car.

Cam belts are usually a straight forward job which earns the garage enough profit for them not to try anything on!

They may advise you to have the belt tensioner changed at the same time which is not a bad idea.

Yes, lots. Could have coolant leak or oil leak from headgasket which might not be seen because of the cambelt cover.

They may also see other belt damage (PAS, Alternator etc) which they may have to take off to fit the cambelt.

As mentioned, crank/cam seals, or core plugs leaking. Waterpump leaking. Damaged cam gears.

although you'd normally notice these if they were in advanced stages but if they were only just starting then you might not notice them before taking the camcover off. Either way they should let you know before doing anything else and cost of repair.
