Good Evening,

I would be grateful if you could provide advice on issues that I have been experiencing since having a HDD upgraded by a local Computer Shop (who have subsequently stopped trading).

A few Weeks ago, my Acer Aspire 5738ZG Laptop (running Windows 7 Home Premium) was fitted with a larger 1GB Toshiba MQ01ABD100 HDD. The local Computer Shop cloned the Data from the original HDD that was originally fitted within the Laptop.

I have subsequently tried to download programs and use Windows Update without success. The Download box (Open/Save/Cancel) pops up but I am unable to choose any of the 3 Options. When attempting to use Windows Update an Error Message states that the Service is not running and you may need to Restart your Computer.

Hope that you can help.

Thank you.

If Windows update service is set to disabled or manual, set it to automatic.

Hi Alun, you haven't stated what browser you're using so I'll presume it's IE. From what you've said it sounds to me as though the transfer may have been corrupted in which case the only solution will be to do a fresh instal of the OS.
Do you still have the old hard drive if so you can attach it to your laptop via a transfer cable and shift stuff across . You could run a repair on your Windows using a copy of Windows 7 but it must be the same as you have already installed . You use your own product key to activate it no data will be lost in the process if you use the update section when asked what you want to install when you do the repair.

Treetops68, I'm using IE11. You may be correct about needing to re-install Windows 7.

Galeck1947, I do not have the original HDD. May need to re-install the OS.

Methyl, I am the Administrator of the Laptop.
