Todays 'Times' (P2) reports that the residents of Frinton are each to pay 10 annually to fund patrols which will be empowered to take action against unruly behaviour. Is Frinton-on-Sea similar to Los Angeles?

well the last time i went it was quiet, had sandy beaches, huts and lots of oaps. i also believe they pride themselves in being a seaside town without a chippie (that may have changed since though).
Sounds exactly like LA then. Apart from for 'Huts' read 'Condos'. You can't get decent chips in LA for love nor money. (Apart from Mr Eric Estrada, of course)!
They have only recently agreed to have a pub.By no stretch of the imagination can it be likened to LA.
Maybe apochryphal, but there was reputedly a sign locally reading 'Harwich for the Continent' to which was appended 'Frinton for the Incontinent'.
It's true about the sign although only the first bit was an actual sign and the rest was added by a graffiti artist.
For my sins I own a flat there (though being in my fifties I'm far too young !). The trouble is non existent. It is just a few bored teenagers 'loitering' , using mobile phones, texting but not even drinking in the main drag there. I've yet to see any sign of trouble ; but we are talking about a place where they think anyone using a mobile is a madman talking to himself and any two or more people under 21 are seen as a threat to public safety. Ice cream may not be sold from any kiosk, walking vendor or from a van, no coaches are allowed , picnicking on the cliff top greensward (grass) is forbidden and my aunt once hired a nanny in full uniform to push my cousin's pram so they didn't look out of place ! Get the picture? And yes there is a chip shop in the town and only a few hundred metres from the Esplanade ( the front0 too.
