Why do you ask?
The pros are obviously health benefits.
The cons are reduction of tax, personal freedom and some sort of replacement.
Similar to any addictive drugs being illegal, i suppose. Black market.

I have to defend Soniakhan here, her first question was what's the correct format for an essay (whose topic happened to be the smoking ban but could have been about anything). This question is actually asking what we think the effects of a smoking ban would actually be (ie the content of her essay).

I am just new to e website, and I don't really know the rules. but I am sorry for any mistake. and thanks for the support and help. :)
The pros
Better health. Cleaner air. More money for the rest of the economy
The cons.
The government needs the tax revenue. Many industries will suffer as a result and people will be very grumpy.
A black market would soon develop and tobacco would be dealt like drugs are now.
A complete tobacco ban would incorporate chewing tobacco, cigars, pipes and snuff as well as cigarettes.
snuff is a derivative of tobacco so maybe that would have to be banned as well if it was a total tobacco ban. You can't have one without the other.
If you ban tobacco, people will smoke other things. If you ban smoking, people will use tobacco in other ways.

Prudie, you'd best defend her on the other post as well, because someone put 'duplicate post' on there!
to see what happens when you ban a substance that people want watch this short video clip

there are lots of people who buy their baccy from under the counter at shops or in pubs so if you ban tobacco outright this will just push up sales and the price of duty free
