I have a family wedding to go to in June, and have absolutely no idea what to wear, or even what you're supposed to wear to weddings! (last wedding I went to I was 9 and dressed in hideous peach taffeta) My wardrobe's best described as 'alternative' so rather than cause a scene/argument/fainting grannies I need to buy something appropriate.

I don't want to spend a fortune on something I'm not going to wear again, and I don't want to dress like an old woman (I'm 23). Any ideas?

June is the best time to wear a nice summer dress.
Pick one that's reusable.

How about a nice trouser suit with a floaty cami under the jacket. If there's an evening do after the reception, off comes the jacket and you're all ready to party :-)

And btw, each piece can be worn with other items, so a good suit really is an investment.

Good advice, but check with the bride or groom just how formal the day and evening parties will be - if you are invited to both. If the first is really formal, you may need to wear something 'posh' for that, and a simpler casual outfit for the evening. Usually, unlesss its a very expensive formal ceremony, the outfit suggested by ablilicious should do fine, but have a word in advance, better to be safe than sorry.
my brother got married last summer so i went to monsoon and got a long hippy type top and dress in a bronze colour. looked good and i can wear the top with jeans the rest of the year!!!
most high streets have a shopper service they will help you choose the right outfit , try it honest you will have fun ..

hey lil monkey.... have a look in Monsoon at the moment... they have a really nice green dress with flowers on it (sounds horrendus i know but its lovely!) i usually hate floral prints but this is really striking... they also have the skirt in the same material. you could get that and team it with a nice cami top and cardican or something. you will be able to re-use these as they will look nice teamed with heels or just flipflops for a bbq or something...

You can go onto the website... www.monsoon.co.uk

click onto dresses...then it is the "rose dip dye printed dress"

It really looks better on.
