I've had an email from them to say this. I like XP, have had it for years, as I like it and use it for business mainly. I don't bother with twitter, facebook etc. So how will this affect me?

It will carry on working but you will not get any more updates including security updates.

'Microsoft support' largely consists of bulky downloads for parts of Windows that most people never use (particularly if they don't use Internet Explorer as their browser). There are several people around here (including myself) who turned off that so-called 'support' several years ago and who've suffered absolutely no problems because of it.

Providers of anti-virus software will continue to provide updates that will work with XP for quite some time to come. (Even Microsoft, which obviously has a big commercial interest in persuading people to stop using XP, has announced that it intends to keep supporting Microsoft Security Essential for XP for an indefinite period).

I'll keep using XP, as will millions of other users. It's up to you to decide whether or not you wish to do so.
