I can't believe you think Cantona was right to leap across that barrier and start assaulting the fan, Childout.
Yes, football grounds have more than their fair share of loudmouthed louts, but footballers (especially in that period) knew/know they will get abuse. I don't condone that but footballers can not take the law into their own hands.
Thankfully 99.99999% of professional footballers rise above the abuse and not the barrier separating them from the fans.

The fan was verbally abusive, Cantona was an out of control violent thug.

How would you react if someone came to your place of work, approached you in an aggressive manner and started effing and blinding at you? Telling you to "F*** off back to (wherever you're from)" and calling you a motherjefffer?
