I have been given the chance of a free venue and DJ for a party. Do I use it for my 39th this year or just say thanks but Im going to celebrate my 40th next year?

Life is short, could you do both?
I'd do both - a free party is too good to miss - then go on holiday for your 40th.
As an old man my attitude is.....Take all you can this year; you may Not be around this time next year. No reason for younger folk thinking otherwise.

I would have to do the buffet so could afford to do both. Could be a party to celebrate my last year in my thirties

That should have read couldn't do both..sorry
Have a big party this year. Your friends won't care. Live for the moment!
Yes, definitely have it now, you do not know what will happen by next year.

Thats true..we should live for the moment

Go for it, you know you want to!
There is an old saying that life begins at 40. So have a damn good party this year and in another 39 years time you will be about my age and ready for another one.
