Ultrasound possibly.
If the scan shows gallstones and if the surgeon feels that there are the cause of your symptoms, then removal of your gall bladder is the main option...either by minimal invasive surgery (laparoscopy) or opening the abdomen ( cholecysytectomy).

Remember that the presence of gall stones do not necessarily mean that they are responsible for your symptoms.

That is a clinical decision.
I had awful pain with mine, when they rang to confirm I had gallstones (on my birthday!) and tell me about warning signs (darker wee, lighter poo) I was already getting them and a few days later I ended up in hospital after I got acute cholecystitis with it. So keep an eye on things if it is gallstones.

I was quite poorly by the time they took mine out - was pretty desperate to get the damn thing out by then. It was day surgery, done laproscopically and I had two weeks off work to recover afterwards from memory. If it's an open surgery job then that is more complex, more time in hospital and recovery.
