Bouncing questions to the top of the page

This has probably been requested before, but would it be possible for questions to be bounced to the top of the page whenever they receive an answer?

I recently received an answer to a "whatever happened to..." question which I posted about 18 months ago. When I posted it, it received a few replies from people not offering an answer but expressing interest in the answer. Then, out of the blue a short while ago, somebody replied with a real answer.

If this reply had made the question bounce back to the top it would have been of interest to several people instead of remaining buried in the AB archives and being seen only by me.

well, the Most Recently Answered option has this effect if you click on it, which many people do...

Yes, but all categories are mixed there.
no I agree, message boards do this and is a much better option.
no they aren't, are they? Only if you're looking at the Q's you've personally answered under your own profile. If you click on 'Most recently answered' under Sport, say, you get the Sport questions alone, listed in most-recently-answered format.

That's a long-winded and time-consuming way of doing something which could be done automatically.
I know what you mean SteveD. In the last couple of weeks, I have received answers to two of my Q's, which were well over a year old. Had they gone to the top of the page, other's might have benefitted too.
Steve I'd not describe one extra click as "long-winded and time-consuming." After 20 other questions had been answered, the newest question-which may have been on for a few minutes-would disappear to the next page and to see it you'd need to click on the next page or click on "most recent" either way, it means clicking....
It works well the way it is using the various set up options we have been given, i play about with it sometimes and forget where I am, but I am dizzy.
if it works,dont fix it.
Good point TCL - it's fairer the way it is.

Yes I totally agree with TCL & Robina - it is fairer the way it is, but I think Steve may just be saying that the answers may never be viewed by anyone interested.

It had never crossed my mind to alter anything & I have no problemss whatsoever with it staying as it is.

I think this is a bad idea, Ive seen it happen on other boards, all that happens is the newer questions go tumbling down the board into obscurity onto page 2 / 3 / 4 as the old stuff is recycled as soon as someone answers.

If you have a post that you feel would be of interest to others just start a new thread with a link.

Yes, those of you against my suggestion are absolutely right. New questions, unless answered very quickly would get pushed off the first page and be lost by the deluge of other questions being answered and pushed to the top.

I'm going into the garden to eat worms!

it also means that popular questions dont get lost, ie hang the child molesting bstards debates dont get reposted!! again and again.
I did exactly that jon!
SteveD, I think you'd find humble pie more palatable. Although, I prefer your answer - it's much more fun!
Good on ya smudge - thats the way to do it!
Is this the longest thread ever to decide that nothing needs changing!??
