Were the council right in their decision to allow a non Muslim couple to adopt this child?
Was it just infuriating the issue further by choosing a lesbian couple?
Was it right to stage an on the street protest instead of the usual way of writing an official complaint?

Well it would appear that they are judging by the fact that ethnic minority children are three time less likely to be adopted than white children, even though some of the barriers have been removed that stopped white couples from adopting children from these communities.
But even so there are still some that demand ethnic minority children remain with parents their own ethnicity, culture and religion, as in this case.

Consider the economics of adoption.
Would you agree that adoptive families are more likely to be middle class?
If you believe that (as I do), then doesn't it stand to reason that there will be a smaller pool of black and Asian families who are in a position to adopt, simply because there are fewer black and Asian families with the means to adopt?
Are adoption rates amongst white working class families the same as those of white middle class families?

various local authorities in the capital continue to target Asian, Black communities on fostering and adoption, you see posters up in any number of places, CAB, council offices, public transport. I am not sure you need a fortune in the bank to foster or adopt, seeing as how you will get help, and those people who have foster many children over the years, some who have been interviewed on TV didn't do it for the money, but for the love of those desperately needy children
