I can't start my car up - I had to call out roadside recovery last night and they said I had to get my starter motor replaced.

The problem is I'm at home now, no homeside recovery and I need to get my car to a garage!

Do garages offer pick ups? Or are they quite expensive?

Any suggestions would greatly appreciated!!

u cud try bump starting it!! most garages will recover ur car for around 50!!

Push start it - if it's only the starter that's the problem then it should fire up ok and get you to a garage.
... unless of your car is an automatic.

Try the yellow pages for a mobile mechanic, changing a starter motor is fairly straight forward and could be done at your house :-)

hit the starter motor with a metal bar if can wont bump start, that sometimes stops it jamming and might work a couple of times
If it is a case of a sticking starter motor then simply place the car in a high gear and rock the car backwards to free it.
Check your roadside recovery details, it may be applicable if you break down as little as mile from your house.

Book an appointment with the local garage beforehand and push/tow it that distance then get the recovery man to drop it off at the garage instead of your house. Not that Ive ever done this of course!

PS. I live at the top of a hill so it was easier for me.Doh!!
a new starter motor is not going to cost a lot to be put on.pretty straightforward job.the starter motor will be the main cost.i,d get a quote from a mobile mechanic if you cant get your car to a local garage.dont get ripped off with excessive towing charges.
Yes, tapping the Starter Motor with, say the wooden end of a hammer will often shake the worn down brushes onto the armature, and the starter motor will work. you can get away with this a few times only.
