And he limps home for a tardy finish, joining that exclusive eight minutes to twenty one club. Yay he/me.
I've just realised that I forgot to post last week's solution (the one due tomorrow). It says on the listenercrossword site that I can submit late if I inform JG in advance. What exactly does this mean? In advance of the date by which I ought to have submitted it ordinarily, or in advance of the date of publication if the solution? If the former, then there is nothing I can do now, short of paying a courier to deliver it. If the latter, then the advice seems a little superfluous. Obviously a submission after the solution publication would be a bit absurd.
JEG will accept late submissions (received before the answer is published) for statistical purposes only if you anticipate the delay in advance and notify him accordingly, for example due to a planned foreign holiday. Even if you can't notify him in advance, as in this case, it's still worth including a note with your entry explaining the reason it's late - in the circumstances I'm sure he would include it in your stats as long as you didn't make a habit of it !

I'm a bit confused by comments here that one member is missing from the complete set. If I'm right there are 13 members in the original work - 8 of these appear in the grid and the other 5 appear as letter jumbles in the clues.
Thanks crosswhit99.

I decided to play safe and send it by courier this morning.

Groans from my wife when I told her why I was paying £100+ for a letter to be sent to St Albans.
Seriously?!
That's funny. That's almost exactly what my wife asked.
Jim,

I am incorrigibly tardy. In my time, I have been 45 mins late for my undergraduate admissions interview, missed a university exam because I arrived too late to be admitted to the hall, missed countless flights having arrived at the check-in desk only minutes before the plane was due to take off, and turned up 30 minutes late for my D.Phil. viva.

I often pay for guaranteed next day delivery of my Listener solution, because i forget to post it until the day before the deadline. This time, I was slightly more disorganised than usual.
Well it's certainly commitment to getting your solution in, huh.
Blimey, Contrarian, I hope you win
I no longer submit entries - don't want the prize and am unlikely to get another 'all correct'. Mr. Green, I understand, accepts late entries provided they are postmarked before the closure date. However, much of the mail I receive arrives un-franked, which has been the case for a couple of years. So I would suggest adding "posted on dd.mm.yy" in or on the envelope.
I have never felt the need to criticize Mr.Green, beyond the minor observation that his drawing of prize-winners is not as random as it might appear, but I do wish entries could be submitted by e-mail as well as by steam post. If the Telegraph wasn't such an awful rag I'd probably transfer my allegiance to the EV - don't need more than one challenging crossword a week.
I think, although I could be wrong, that there are two characters missing from the grid/clues. There are suggestions that both were attempted to be included, but maybe it proved too difficult. Some tricky clues but a great puzzle overall.
