Down to the last clue, which I think has the answer NOT PRESENT.
"Time and again new openers batting getting away" (3, 7)
It fits the straight definition 'away', but beyond that I can't parse a thing.
'New openers' usually means changing initial letters; 'batting' often means 'in'. I just can't see it.
