Purchased new laptop a while ago with Windows 8 on it and am just getting round to putting music on it but I can't find a Media player on it. Does anyone know where to locate it or do I have to download it? Or is there another way of getting music off Cd's, onto laptop so I can them put on ipod?? Thanks

Windows Media Player should be there (in the programs list, under 'W') in all versions of Windows 8 but it's no longer the default program for handling music files. (That's Windows Music App). Hi just tried that, then after the installation process it says "this installation is not applicable to your computer." ??
How odd

Have you accessed the store from your own tiles screen?
Maybe your laptop is 32bit?

Is it running 8.1?

Running 8.0 I think

Windows Media Player is 'Jack of all trades and master of none'. i.e.it tries to do lots of things but each of those functions can be bettered by alternative (free) software.

WinAmp has been around for ages (although the latest version is bang up to date) and is generally regarded as achieving much of what Windows Media Player sets out (but fails) to do:
http://www.winamp.com/
(It will rip CDs, which is what your question specifically relates to).

However there are dozens (possibly hundreds!) of free programs that just rip CDs, without attempting to do lots of other things as well, such as this much-praised one:

While WinAmp is possibly the best media player for handling audio files, there are two vastly better programs for handling video. The one which is constantly praised in the technical press, on BBC technology programs and here on AB is VLC:

It's certainly a fantastic program but I prefer the far less well-known (but equally much-praised by those who've discovered it) GOM:

Just going to upgrade to 8.1 then I'll see what happens, thankyou

Brilliant gave up upgrading as stuck on 1% for ages! Now downloading Express Rip, thanks guys.
Download VLC Media Player for free and use it Windows 8 doesn't have a Media Player unless you pay for one .
You may try use another media player. iReal bluray media player is free and it can play bluray discs. Here is the comparison of windows media player and iReal player.http://www.blurayplayermac.com/blu-ray-media-player/blu-ray-media-player-vs-windows-media-player.htm
