Hi, you 'tecchies'. Knowing that i am an avid reader, my son, bless his cotton socks, has given me a kindle as a belated
Christmas pressie. Trouble is my internet is provided by 3Connect and is on the dongle. Am i correct in assuming that the two are not compatible? Thanks in advance for your help.

Why not ? Surely any connection will do ? But not a techie...have you tried it ?

Tried a couple of times, last night, mm, followed instructions to the letter (i think) but could not connect.
Hi Ken.

Does the dongle create a wifi signal, or is it just plugged into the PC?

If it creates a wifi signal, connect the kindle to that.

If it doesn't you'll have to transfer books by usb cable. See here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200798780

UNLESS you've got a 3g version of the kindle. In that case it will automatically connect to the "whispernet" and you should be able to download books as you like.
I assumed a WiFi signal would be available...
your internet access(whatever, devise you may be using) will be slower with a dongle, than say, a dial-up connection or a ADSL cabled connection. However, your kindle will connect with the internet, via a U.S.B. connection, regardless of who your provider is.
Is this a kindle fire or reader ?

Thanks for the prompt replies, you guys. I'll have a good 'play around' with it later when i return. Two things that are certainly not compatible - me and technology:-)

Just a bog standard (£69) Kindle, murraymints. (Son left receipt in bag lol)
Hi Ken - if it is the bog-standard one then you'll have to use the USB connector.

Feel free to come back and ask for recommendations for books here, or even in our Books category: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Arts-and-Literature/Books-and-Authors/

I've had another good play with the bloody thing again to no avail. Tried what you suggested, Ab Editor, but in order to do that you need to register the Kindle with Amazon. And in order to do that, yep you guessed it, you need a wi-fi connection. However, i have a mate who has the Virgin set up and i will be visiting him tomorrow with a list of books that i will download at his place once i have registered using his system. Thanks for your help guys.
