My Uncle unfortunately had his bladder removed 3 yrs ago due to bladder tumors. Although he is back at work and in good health, the skin around the stoma is quite inflamed and 'torn'. Luckily, the stoma bags do not attach onto this portion of skin but he cannot seem to get it healed up. Antiseptic creams are 'greasy' therefore restrict the adhesion of the stoma bags. Does anyone know of a powder with antiseptic properties he could use to try to clear things up? Would something like 'cuticura' (if you can still get it) work.? Any help gratefully received. Nurse at local practice recommended keeping it dry-but this is hard when you work and need to be up and about most of the time.

There are several antisep[tic powders on the market, your next prot of call should be the chemist, as it is weekend ordinary unperfumed talc should help. Try one of the baby powders they don't have perfume in them.
Neosporin antibiotic powder.......but "dust" sparingly.

sqad: is that powder over the counter or would it be on prescription?
\\\\,the skin around the stoma is quite inflamed and 'torn'. \\\

it sounds as though it is infected, hence the need for an antibiotic powder.
I don't know.......try at the chemist and plead with him..;-)
It might be helpful if your uncle went to the pharmacy himself, so the pharmacist can take a look at the skin before he sells him anything.
Better off to go and see the stoma nurses at that hospital before it becomes infected .They're qualified in this sort of thing and will be able to offer advice about ways to manage this problem .My husband has stoma and with any problems he had/has this is his first port of call .
Just give them a ring .
I agree shaney,
I have a stoma & any problems I have I contact my stoma nurse.
