/// Judge Hughes accepted the argument and banned reporting of the case but then changed his mind after a two-day legal battle with the Mail. ‘We are dealing with members of the legal profession charged with perverting the course of justice,’ he said. ///

It would seem in this case if it hadn't been for the Daily Mail, this case would not have been reported on, simply for cultural reasons only.

No, Gromit, judges and the profession are very hot on miscreants and suspected miscreants who break the code of the profession. That would be a reason for ruling that the case should be reported. Indeed, it may well have been, judging from the judge's remarks when reversing the decision. It is peculiarly difficult to defend a lawyer, either before a court or a professional body, because you sense the indignation and bias against the accused in those doing the judging. The riposte to anything you suggest as being an innocent mistake or prompted by some temporary error of judgment is always "But this man is a solicitor!"
