Ipad Will Not Remember Passwords

My iPad 2 will no longer remember passwords. It was fine until about half hour ago but now I have to log in every time I go to a site. I can't correct it. Has anyone else had this this problem and how to I sort it out Help pse.

Oh silly me I must have accidently hit the private button on the bottom of the screen I have now sorted it.

What's the private button (so I will know what to do if this happens to me)?

When you open safari at the bottom of the left hand corner the word private is written. If you tap that it then it disables all your passwords and you have to log in each time.
