When I have used my steamer to cook cabbage, I find that the cabbage is not very warm when served on the plate. Even if I dish it out last and then put gravy on, it still seems cold in comparison to everything else on the plate.

Would it be better to do it in a small saucepan with a tiny bit of water in the bottom? I don't like soggy cabbage though.

I do all veg in a steam bag in microwave....always good !
Nuke it for a minute or two in the microwave on full power - I do mine in a pyrex jug -just put a good splash of water in the bottom and cover it with a splash guard.

Piping hot & nice and crunchy.

My steamed cabbage is boiling hot when dishing it up out of the steamer.
Never ever had luke warm cabbage, thats awfull.

pusskin, I think mine starts off hot, but seems to cool down really quickly.

Maybe the microwave is the way to go. I have never cooked veg in a microwave. Does it spoil the vitamin content?
Tilly ..use the steam bags..Just put veg into them no water ...they cook in their own water content..much nicer than boiling....can buy them in pound stores ....
Ah Tilly. Could it be that dinner is served on cold plates maybe?
Mine are always fairly hot, and I make sure they are never chilly.

I do use hot plates, puss. Maybe I don't cook the cabbage enough because we like it crunchy. I'll see what happens this evening.

I'll look out for the steam bags, minty. Thank you.
I know what you mean Tilly2. Some veg doesnt seem to stay hot for very long after serving, especially cabbage and brocolli. I always serve on heated plates too and pour the gravy on top.
At Xmas when Ive lots of different veg, I put them into a large casserole dish with lid, when cooked and keep them hot in the oven until everyone is sat down with turkey on the plate. Then place the casserole dish on the table. It seems to stay piping hot until everyone has helped themselves
