Bronchoscopy Drug

Does anyone know the name of the drug they use in a bronchoscopy that wipes out any memory of the procedure? I had it done on Thursday and was stubbornly sure that the specialist had not done anything ! yet it was all finished.

Sorry, not sure (ketamine??) although i have seen it used for endoscopies and patients always ask when they are going in- when they are on their way out!

My dad used to get a bronc on a regular basis after his lung transplant. He would be doped up on this stuff and swore he never had it done!

Thanks every-one I will research it now, I was told I would be awake throughout and was very apprehensive, but, it went like a dream , I k new absolutely nothing.

I've been putting off a bronchoscopy but I know I'll have to have it done sooner rather than later so that's very interesting for me to know.

Agree Midazolam, it is worth knowing that although you don't remember anything of the procedure afterwards you are not completely unresponsive during it. This can be distressing if parents or relatives are present during the procedure so need to be prepared.

Depends....which hospital and the choice of the bronchoscopist.

Might be Midazolam........might be Propofol.

Although I felt nothing whatsoever, I do know that I heard myself say the word 'heel' twice like I was advised beforehand that I would be asked to do. Really weird.......
