It's a new one on me, but followers of Breatharianism believe food is unnecessary and sunlight can provide all the nourishment the body needs. Michelle Pfeiffer says she was 'saved' from this cult when she was introduced to her first husband, who had been cast in a film about the Moonies, the name given to followers of Rev Moon Sun-myung’s Unification Church. She said that while she was helping him with research “on this cult” she realised she was in one.

I suspect, like most cult leaders, Wiley Brooks is a very rich man.

Like most 'believers' breatharians only believe on a superficial level. In reality they are secret eaters and drinkers. Just as with most religious believers who when it comes to the crunch don't rely on god to do anything to help them.Rather they rely on the health and social services and discoveries made by scientists many of whom are atheists.
There was an item on TV a decade or so ago about a woman who claimed to live only on sunlight and water. In reality the 'water' was tea heavily laced with sugar and she used to visit her neighbouring daughter ever day where according to the daughter she pigged out on chocolates, bicuits and cakes ( to go with her tea) but didn't eat any actual 'food'. There is 'self denial' and plain 'denial'
Surprised you've just found that, being interested in such subject matter. Not sure where they think the amount of energy needed to run a body is going to come from though. Sunlight has no chance, we aren’t even filled with chlorophyll. I think they're all a little green, personally.

OG, I've happened upon the concept before - just not this particular cult.
This is from the menu item 'Breatharians' on the left hand side..

Question: If you are a true Breatharian why did you recommend a diet of diet coke and McDonald’s double-quarter-pounder with cheese meal?

Wiley: In order to understand why I have chosen these foods you must first know how the human bodies descended into the 3rd dimensional world in first place. This is not our natural home. Being here as long as we have been was not intentional. We didn’t plan to stay here permanently. You could say it was purely by accident that we ended up getting stuck in this 3d world. The Earth, without a doubt, is the most beautiful planet in the Milky Way galaxy and that is why it was "the" vacation spot of the galaxy for millions of years. There was always a constant stream of visitors coming here from Worlds and Galaxies far and wide. .....//

..and so it continues.

This has got to be a joke surely?
Well, he sold me on the Mc-double-quarter-pounder with cheese meal, but just to be on the safe side, I ordered it with a large (non-diet) coke . . . to go!

Mibs, ha ha! One cheeseburger and you’re anybody’s! ;o)

Ludwig, //you must first know how the human bodies descended into the 3rd dimensional world in first place.//

I wonder what the other ‘dimensional’ worlds are? Must look at the website.

I laughed at his vacation spot claim – but then I didn’t. People believe this crud. Bet Mr Brooks has some nice holidays!
Breatharianism is complete and utter nonsense. How can any normal, reasonably educated person fall for this drivel ?
Question Author
^^ Pass.
I suspect that the subset of belief known as religion has many 'houses'. There are the bog standard old working class beliefs that don't involve too much self sacrifice such as catholicism and islam then you go up the scale of exclusivity and sillyness through JW, mormon, CS, jainism, veganism and near the top for sheer silliness, denial of reality, exclusivity and cachet are beliefs like breatharianism. The sort of thing that Hollywood wanabee actresses and crystal therapists go in for to make them seem somehow special and connected with the cosmic whatever... Just speculation but ....:o)
//Mibs, ha ha! One cheeseburger and you’re anybody’s! ;o)//

Maybe that's why I'm still an atheist. I don't play, 'hard to get' . . . or maybe it's the socks. :o/
sure that isn't wiley coyote... never heard of it either.
Question Author
Mibs, not the socks!! Please not the socks!! ;o)
