Chas Hodges used to play bass with Mike Berry and the Outlaws, who featured Richie Blackmore on guitar. I don't think he ever played on a DP album though.
I'm having trouble tracking down which album (if he was on one) but Chas Hodges was part of a group called the Outlaws which most of the other members later went on to form deep purple. Chas played bass so might well have been drafted into one of the early line ups of deep purple to fill in on the bass parts.
Chas had also played various sessions with Blackmore in the years between Outlaws and the formation of Deep Purple.

During the DP years he was involved in a session group/album called "Green Bullfrog" which included Blackmore and Ian Paice.

This quote from Melody Maker, March 1971 -

"Deep Purple bass player Roger Glover collapsed from flu during the group's performance at Aberdeen Music Hall last week. Chas Hodges, from Heads, Hands and Feet, took over for the group's remaining numbers."
is it not also true that he played bass for labbi sifre (something inside so strong etc) and consequently plays on a eminem track cause Mr Mathers sampled it...maybe urban myth but i so want to believe...

With the February issue of 'Classic Rock' magazine is a free CD. On it is a track by Green Bullfrog called Who Do You Love.

Didn't Chas & Dave support Led Zeppelin at Knebworth?

isca, you are right. This is from the official Chas and Dave website: "In the seventies Chas & Dave were prolific session musicians before their own thing took off, playing on many albums for a wide range of artists. One such album was Labi Siffre's 'Remember My Song' from 1975. One of the tracks on this album - 'I Got The' - was sampled by Eminem on his breakthrough hit 'My Name Is' and is the main musical refrain of the track. Chas is playing guitar and Dave is playing bass"
robbo, you have made my day!
