Is there a special Greek recipe for beef braised gently in a sauce? I'm trying, so far without success, to re-create a really delicious braised beef recipe I used to eat in a Greek restaurant. All I can remember is that the sauce contained a lot of bay leaves, but it didn't appear to contain any other vegetable (although I can't believe it didn't contain onions at a minimum). Thanks..

Sounds like a dish called Stifado to me. Try putting that word into a search engine and see what you get.
Scoobysoo is right. I used to chef in a Greek restaurant, stifado is wonderful. Enjoy

Thanks folks. Have now found a couple of recipes on the internet and look forward to trying them out.

A good stifado will have very small whole onions or shallots in it - and it is a wonderful dish. Hope you enjoy it!
