Now that a commercial poultry farm in France has been confirmed as having Bird Flu, does anyone think that our Government will take quick action, banning imports of French poultry products, putting strict measures in place for our own industry etc or do you think this wil happen after the first cases have been found here, and do their usual closing the stable door after the horse has bolted routine?

Problem is, if or when it reaches here, it'll probably have been brought by wild migrating birds, so really, a ban on French foodstuffs would be a waste of time.

I dont think they would bring sanctions in, as for example if they per chance vaccinated our birds we would never know if it had reached here.

We , along with other countries, have to wait with baited breath,us to see if it has crossed the channel.

Hopefully the French should with the vaccinations which I believe are now available should hopefully contain it.

The last thing we want is scaremongering a la Edwina Currie fiasco.

I firmly believe there is a lot going on behind the scenes and the professionals are monitiring the situation and we are not in present danger.IMO

We are having chicken curry tonight btw.

Its a smokescreen to divert our attention from Iraq, its the new "terrorist threat" or whatever. Its the flu for **** sake, it happens every year. DO NOT PANIC. Although we could burn any french tourists that arrive at our ports.
I would have thought that if the H5N1 is in France then it is also already in the UK , its just that no one has spotted it yet, after all it is only a quick fligfht across the channel for birds and they don't even have to stop for customs checks.
