Wasn't sure where to post this, but 'news' seems kind of relevant.

Sir Richard Branson thinks the 60 year war on drugs, which has been "a complete failure", should end.
He is of the opinion that people with drug problems should not be sent to prison, but should be sent to treatment centres and be helped, allowing them to become valuable members of society.

How can it "end" though, there will always be the criminals who supply these drugs, and you can't "treat" absolutely everyone. Not everyone wants to be helped.

As a side note, RB is either developing Parkinsons, or has a serious amphetamine problem :P

Thanks for that post, Eddie. I think I'm one of the people who hadn't quite grasped the difference between legalising and decriminalising drugs, so that made for an interesting read.

I know this will sound a bit 'naff' but I just wish there was a better way to help addicts, as opposed to just chucking them in jail, where sometimes the addiction is fuelled even further. |An ideal world, I suppose, but I don't see why it's not achievable.

This was discussed a while back, Portugal decriminalised all drugs a few years ago and it has worked very well Portugal now has the lowest incidence of drug use anywhere in the western world and crime is down by up to 60%.

LazyGun spoke about Portugal yesterday, he said he hadn't seen any recent 'figures' with regards to whether or not it was working.
