I have just heard this very brave young girl being interviewed on the Today Program.

What a breath of fresh air. Compare what some of the stupid men interviewed back in Pakistan were saying, with this eloquent, intelligent girl.
Some of them didn't even believe that she had been shot in the head !

It is rumoured that she is line for a Nobel Peace prize. I do hope so...she has my vote.

There is a longer interview on tonight's Panorama.

I heard that interview. She said that the people of Pakistan always wait for someone else to do something about the problems they face (it’s the same the world over), and she thought "Why not me? Why don’t I do something about it.” She made me laugh when she said, in effect, that due to the worldwide publicity the attack had engendered she thought the...

the uni in question caved in over pressure of a demonstration, why?
///sees it fit to be so negative and cynical about her.
Shame on you///

I simply asked a question,
the answer to which may have filled a gap in my knowledge,
why does is not surprise me that the OPer is unable to see this?
i know it's unlikely she will return to her homeland, the price on her head must be enormous. The real power is with the women, if only they would damn well take it. Chattels for too long, bidden, made to don a garb so offensive, as though she shouldn't be seen at all, effectively invisible, sold into marriage often underage, great, now we have that here, makes you want to shed tears of blood, it really does.
She should get the Nobel Prize. Barak Obama got one and he didn't even need to get shot.
My opinion is - this ambitious young lady deserves all the recognition she got/is getting. I don't see or understand what Obama did to get the Nobel Peace prize.

baldric...I interpreted your post as disrespectful to this young girl. If my interpretation was wrong, than I apologise !

The main reason that I think she should be considered for a Nobel Prize is that she has become a beacon for hope to all other Muslim girls, who feel that they are discriminated because of their sex. For most of the world, the concept of a girl going to school is nothing out of the ordinary. But for millions of Muslim girls, that is a right that they still have to fight for. She was shot by stupid terrorists, hiding behind a twisted view of their religion.

The Nobel Peace Prize can't be given to everybody, but it would to me that this girl is well-worth considering. Previous winners of this prize have nothing whatsoever to do with this girl. Just because mistakes have been made in the past doesn't exclude good decisions in the future.
