There is no "greatest album of all time".

Different people like different things, and it all depends on your taste in music.

Some people may say the jazz album by Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" is the greatest album, but it came out in the mid-50s and you have probably never heard of it.

But a country and western fan may hate Jazz and like an album by Dolly Parton for example.

I think Dark Side of the moon is a great album, but I have never heard OK computer by Radiohead so I have no idea if it is any good.

For what it is worth my favorite album is called "Forever Changes" by a 1960s rock group called "Love".

You have probably never heard of that either, but you can read some reviews here:

Three that instantly spring to mind for me are

Bat out of Hell, Meatloaf, and Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. Also on album is the Blues Brothers soundtrack, which although is far from a 'classic' to most people, to me is great and always on.

Very personal thing music.

PS Who's Radiohead?

there is no greatest album but there is a most popular choice as best album ever.

mine is u2's joshua tree

my top three would be

1 damian rice cannonball

2 revolver the beatles

3 foo fighters the colour and the shape.

i no this is going to annoy loads of you and im sorry but i really cant understand the floyd thing!

i agree with helpful guy,its all about taste.i dont think your looking at the "greatest "album ,but the most successful album,in which case dsotm is well up there along with many others including ok computer and dare i say wakko jakkos thriller.one of my personal favs is marillions fugazi which some people may not have heard.fantastic lyrics and well produced.

2) "Sunflower" Beach boys

3) "Dog Man Star" Suede

4) "Vauxhall and I" Morrissey

5) "Station to Station" David Bowie

6) "15 Big Ones" Beach Boys

7) "That's the way it is" Elvis

8) "Abbey Road" Beatles

9) "Heathen" David Bowie

10) "Out of Time" REM

Oh yes Andy Boz, who are Radiohead?, grow up d***head!!!!!!
without a doubt it has to be the counting crows first album august and everything after . not one bad song out of all 11 and when you listen to anna begins the bass is not in time with the drums which are not in time with the vocals wich arnt in time with the bass but it still works . the album as a whole takes you on a rollercoaster of an emotional ride but in the end the a positive one. pure genius lyrics by Adam Duritz go out and buy it now !!!
as a 40 something, my top 3:
1) the scream - siouxsie and the banshees
2) the smiths - the smiths
3) never mind the ******** - the sex pistols
of course it's a very personal thing but these 3 albums all started new genres.

Mr or Mrs Shiznt, just because I am not familiar with Radiohead, does not make me a ********, and as for growing up, I consider myself to be middle aged. I have musical preferences that you may not have heard of, but I don't insult you.

Regards

Andy

Oh my life! This is all getting a bit out of hand!!!!! The best ever album of all time for me changes from one week to the next. It all depends on what mood im in. I could be in a Led Zep mood, a Foo Fighters mood, a Greenday mood, a Black Sabbath mood, etc etc. But I am NEVER in a Britney, Kylie or Robbie Williams Mood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Music is indeed a matter of personal choice & I personally choose for my greatest album of all time "Never mind the ********" by the Sex Pistols (rude word I know but that's the title) From the moment I first heard it back in 1977 (age 12) I was totally hooked. I never get bored of it, I still play my original vinyl LP often & every time I listen to it, I close my eyes & I'm hearing it again for the first time. The power of music eh? Magic!

its all about personal choice but for what its worth here goes...

1. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

2. It takes a nation of millions to hold us back - Public Enemy

3. Ogdens Nut Gone Flake - The Small Faces
