Yesterday while in a shop, I saw two small dogs-they appeared to be cavaliers or similiar-sitting up in large pushchairs with the rain guard down.
I commented on it to the shop owner...she said that 'pre-pushchairs' the dogs were carted around in a shopping trolley...they are never walked as they should be.
I find this both sad and horrifying.

Me too.

Compared with how some dogs are treated, there's is a good life I guess, still it's not treating dogs how they should be is it?
It's weird.

Yeh...they should be out running around like mad loonies with other dogs.
The couple who had them were elderly...I suppose the dogs were their 'babies'.
It's awful, poor things should be treated like dogs, not babies. As for sticking them in shop trollies, that's not on, people have to put their shopping in there afterwards.
Some people use these for dogs with health problems too though. Rather a dog that can not walk un-aided be taken out in one of these than to be stuck in doors all day.

Bit odd unless the dogs have problems walking and yet would like to have trips outside.

Thought you were going to describe what I saw in Juan-les-Pins. A young couple walked by, she pushing a pushchair. They had a toddler with them The toddler was walking with the father. In the pushchair was the family dog, a small spaniel!
There was an old bloke around by me who used to take his old dog out in a pushchair. The dog would potter along as far as it wanted to then get in the chair when it got tired and the bloke used the pushchair instead of a walking aid. Sadly is till see the bloke but the pushchair is now empty......
We used to see a woman with a chihuahua walking around with it in a baby's pushchair, which I thought was a bit odd, then she got a chihuahua puppy and upgraded to a double pushchair! I could just understand this if she was in town with them, and didn't want to risk them being trodden on, but this was in quiet residential roads, where they could be walked normally.
They were always done up to the nines, little coats etc, I would have liked to strip them of everything, and just let them run around naturally, like dogs, rather than a child substitute.

I wonder if this could be a form of abuse?... Not letting animals behave as nature meant them to.
I'd rather see that than the ghastly story in our local rag this week, about a vile couple who kept a terrier locked up in a filthy cage - all the time - for FIVE YEARS. Did they go to jail? No
Did they get fined? No
Did they have to pay costs? yes
what did they get? - a suspended sentence and banned from owning pets

Awful
Maybe the dogs get enough exercise and are allowed to be dogs in the owners garden? Unless you tie their legs together you can't really stop a dog running around either the house or garden when its unattended. They sound like they are very loved if a little pampered, certainly not abused .
We have a lady near us who pushes her cavalier around in a pram. It has heart problems and a hip problem and she pushes it to the shops with her rather than leaving it at home.
I think this is a good idea if the dog is elderly and gets tired after walking for a bit, but not otherwise. Boxtops that's terrible about that poor terrier, but at least they were banned from keeping any more dogs, thank God.
Quite common for toy dogs especially at shows instead of cages - but wouldn't like to try to put my Heelers in one let alone my GSD! These dogs are not likely to be dumped or abused, and I would rather see them being spoilt.

I have one of those. My dog is getting on and has heart problems. We go on the bus and the boat ferry. It gets her out and she loves it. We go for a short walk every morning but she cant walk very far.
My mum had a Ruby coloured Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (Bubbles) who never got walked, the poor dog was used to breed from and then she had her put to sleep when she developed a heart problem, she was only about 6 years old. I tried walking the dog myself but as she had never been on a lead and was already 3 years old when I first knew of her I could never get her to wear a collar or harness without causing her extreme distress.
The next time my mum got a dog my sister and I took it from her and made sure it went to a good home.
