A horrible story here.

Here is the thing though;from the article, it says that

"In February 2009, a law was created in Yemen that set the minimum age for marriage at 17. Unfortunately, it was repealed after more conservative lawmakers called it un-Islamic."

Do those who believe in Islam really think this kind of practice is acceptable? How can a minimum age limit of say 18 - heck even 16, be considered "unislamic"?

Naomi, although your explanation might true to those peoples' lifestyle, I could never begin to understand their mindset. They are barbaric and uncaring and unfeeling. How I feel for those little girls...

Their 'ways' would never make sense to me, neither could I ever accept this part of their culture.
Society, females do as they’re told. Feelings aren't a consideration.
It's worth pointing out that the mothers of the girls are complicit in the whole process as well.
that to me is what is so indefensible, that the mothers send their daughters off to these old men, knowing full well the life they will lead, either that they are so cowed by the husband they don't say a word. I read this story a while back, its vile, as are all of these tales of little girls being effectively sold into slavery.
As I said, females do as they're told - and swathes of clothing hide a multitude of sins.
