Hi driverdale I saw another post regarding BT recently and it was suggested to get a British speaking person you should go down the sales route or as if you are going to buy something or update something as if it is sales the line seems to stay in Britain, then just take it from there,it seems a bit underhand but needs must, worth a try.
I have said the same in the past.
always either go to sales or the "I'm thinking of leaving" dept

soon as they think youre on your way they'll do something, but you have to call their bluff and stand your ground with them.

Dealing with india you will get absolutely nowhere
I also recently had terrible problems trying to get through to BT in a language I understood. I agree with above, I also eventually chose a sales option from the reeeeeallly long and tedious automatic menu options and got through to the UK (Ireland I think). Made all the difference.
