I must be extremely slow today but cannot see how you came to either conclusion!?
Pure luck, but they are correct
14a/9d A competitor of the Record Mirror was the NME (sounds like / picked up enemy)

27a/28a There are a number of Daily Newspapers scattered around the grid - two of them, THE SUN and EX PRESS, are split (gone bust) across two answers.
