Have you decided on which English-Scottish phrase book you'll take yet? I was just thinking that there are a few Scottish people here in AB who'd gladly help you out with any linguistic problems. Anyway, good luck with your new studies. Are they starting soon?

Hi there!

So far I've just figured on nodding whenever I don't understand what's been said. Or the "can you just spell that please?" ... hopefully not been too embarrassed so far.

Not started full studies yet, but one lecture course has begun, and I will also start some teaching assistance next week. On the verge of choosing what I'll be working on, but going to spend the next two or three weeks reading around the various options.
jim.are you working in Scotland ?
I'm in Scotland, anyway... "working" might be an exaggeration at the moment.
I didn't see the post referring to phrase-books, but I'd certainly recommend The Concise Scots Dictionary ISBN 1 902930 01 0 (paperback) published by Edinburgh University Press. It costs around £15.00.
