4down reads "initially zero info mostly on US railway circulating and West Coast line in red (9). I have the answer as 'ZINFANDEL' but I'm unable to fully justify it, so would be grateful for a complete explanation, assuming of course my answer is correct!

Many thanks for any assistance, although I won't be able to look back for any feedback until tomorrow.

I thik that it goes like this: Z = initially (zero) inf = info mostly ...as BigMac says, then like this: and = with what follows el = this is a short way that Americans have of referring to an elevated railway, which usually runs (I think) in a circle (like London's Circle Line). An American would say 'I'm taking the el to (wherever).' I think that I've got it right.

Yes, I went with Zinfandel, too.
Z = initially Z(ero)
inf = info mostly
and then I got stuck, other than Zinfandel being a RED wine/grape from California (West Coast)

Yes, that's exactly how far I managed to get with the logic BigMac, perhaps others will be able to enlighten us?

Many thanks bookbinder, it can be so frustrating when unable to completely justify an answer.

Hi Grasscarp, afraid I've not visited too often in recent times, owing mainly to other calls. Hope all is well with you (S)
I am doing alright thanks Sarumite. Hope life goes well for you too. I have never forgotten when you got suspended for being too helpful and answering too many questions in a short space of time. Those were the days!
