Throp, is derived from Thorpe - as in Cleethorpes and that other one that won't get through the smut filter.

Thorpe is in turn derived from the Viking word for 'Village'.

Incidentally the hash symbol # is actually an Octothorp - so called because it resembles the layout of fields in a traditional Viking settlement.

I'll get my coat.
