Get Audacity and also the Lame plugin or it.

Connect your tape recorder to the computernfrom the headphone socket to the line in (or mic) socket on the computer.

Set the input in Audacity to line in or mic depending on what you have used.

Experiment with tape recorder and computer volume settings.

You may want to turn on or off playback whilst recording - sometimes you need it, sometimes you don't.

Save your recording then use the filter in Audacity to clean the hisses etc. Export to mp3 and then burn - you could put the mp3s into iTunes and use it to burn the cd.
