I bought the cheapest one I could find then ended up buying a better quality one. The cheap one I bought you had to set it up before you could even take a photo if you needed the flash and what I wanted to take was gone. You dont need to go top of the range for one just study them before buying you only get what you pay for.
Forgot to add if you are near argos get there catalogue and look them all up they have a good range and you can study each one on ther site
You may be better off buying a used one from Jessops.

These can be much cheaper, little used and have some form of guarantee from Jessops.
I bought my daughter a Vivitar from Argos 49 and it's super.
...mmm... the cheapest in the long run is the best you can afford..NOT the cheapest you can find as wendilla found out.....

NO LESS than 5megapixels........and at least 3X OPTICAL zoom...forget optical zoom...and must use some sort of memory card.

If you get those three features then you really don't need all the other "Bells and Whistles"

Sorry to say the Vivitar from Argos at 349 is not one to go for if you want any sort of quality ........it is 3megapixel....has NO zoom apart from the digital zoom which is NO ZOOM at all.

..a better choice at Argos would be the
Vivitar V5385 5MP Digital Camera....at 99 pounds odd..........though you might even get that for less at other stores. It is 5Mp..has optical zoom and uses cards up to 512 Mbs...........that would have cost 700 quid a couple of years ago........things change fast in the technology stakes......commoner <G>
sorry lepers I should have said forget DIGITAL zoom.........wish one could edit these posts.....commoner.
hi commoner i bought the cheapest one I could find as I didnt know the first thing about digital cameras but by buying the cheapest I soon found out. I now have the samsung digimaxa7 and it is so easy to use.It is on back page of argos catalogue.

i worked for jessops until a few months ago. the used cameras have 12 months warranty and that can be extended with a accidental damage cover. i recently saw a nikon coolpix 2100 for just 27 in my local jessops. It is only 2 million pixels but good enough for...maybe 5x7 prints. the lens is good quality and the exposure accurate. you are best to go with used quality brands or spend at least 80 + on a basic one from a good brand....and for goodness sake don't just go for big numbers!

When i sold them i used to compare digital cameras with tvs. they all had the same number of lines (625) making the picture but there is a huge difference in quality.

remember, 2 years ago people were wetting themselves over 3 and 4 million pixels.
